Brassica rapa. 55 days. Open-pollinated.
Purple Top White Globe is an heirloom turnip variety first introduced in the late 19th century and one of one most popular, widely grown turnips in the world.
Smooth, globe-shaped roots grow to around 3 to 4 inches in diameter and have a purple-colored crown (the portion of the root that is above ground).
The leafy portion of this vegetable can be cooked as greens, while the roots, which are sweet, mild, and fine-grained, are excellent for eating fresh in salads, stir-fries, and other dishes, or for pickling and canning.
