Plant grows to around 8 feet in height and produces pale-yellow flowers with a dark center that bloom from September to November.
Many parts of the plant are edible, including the seeds, leaves, fruits, and roots, and have a flavor similar to sorrel or rhubarb.
The most popular part of the plant, however, is the calyx, a fleshy, cup-like structure that contains the plant's seeds. It's bright-red color and tart taste make a good replacement for cranberries and are often used for making jams, sauces, herbal teas, and other drinks.
