Start indoors 2 to 4 weeks before transplanting. Sow seeds 1/2 inch deep in individual peat pots and keep the soil around 75ºF until germination, which should occur in 7 to 14 days. Transplant outdoors once the soil temperature has warmed to around 70 or 80ºF, placing them in hills 4 to 6 feet apart, 2 to 3 plants per hill.
